No no no.

We've all had that "special" moment that we need to get off our chest. I've got several that I'd like kept quiet but for the sake of making other people feel better I'm happy to share.

Last year's brief rest on Ryde Sands being one that I made very public.

The very first time I launched my own boat (not a boating novice by the way) I made sure hat I had placed the bung in a prominent place so that I would not forget to fit it before the big launch. Then promptly forgot it in the heat of the moment.

In the old diving days having fitted the outboard to the transom on the sib I forgot to tighten the clamps. Interesting effect as the throttle was opened and the outboard tried to mimic a catherine wheel

And many more that I might share over a pint one day :?

So come on you lot, come clean. I know there have been some horrors perpetrated out there.

A little reminder for some ;) ...... either done my self or watched others FAIL !
Who has ......
-left the pontoon with one or more ropes still attached ?
-spent an age trying to work out why engine wont start, only to find you aint put in the kill cord ?
- pushed off in the tender only to find the engine wont start and paddles still on mother ship ?
-Thought you were in a race you could not loose, to find out they were only trying to return your fenders you stupidly had left out ?
AND my all time favourite ...... had a BBQ on back of the boat and someone call the coastguard as they thought WE ( no surely not)(   ) were on fire!
might I had.... NOT all of the above were me

Oh I could type all day with mistake and silly errors,

from the simple of leaving the prop sock on in Mercury Hamble and wondering why the response was terrible until bits of red plastic and elastic started to float away.

or how about a chip supper in Torquay inner harbour the first year the tidal barrage was in place. Entry was fine but exit a little difficult with a large barrier petruding from the water. Wife and 2 kids under 10 with the car/trailer in Teignmouth and 8pm low tide on Aug bank holiday Sunday. After hours of dilberation we decided on a bus to retrieve car and then drive back for boat. But the inner harbour ramp is smack bang in the middle of 3 pubs and next to a very large weatherspoons, You can image the grief & abuse I got at 11PM recovering a boat and moving tables, chairs and drunks to get to the ramp.

or how about cutting the corner at Hamble and wondering why I could see the bottom- crunch

Or reversing off the side of the ramp at Bucklers hard on a falling tide, 2 wet kids n wife 1st May B/H (son number 2 birthday) hotel in poole with high tide at midnight. = long drive, pissed off family, tired kids, me walkigng thru a wedding party in shorts n wellies cos I'd given up the will to live by 1.30am to get to bed.

Ahh the memories............ I dont want to sell up & I'll go down fighting so can I have many more happy F'ups

The ones that really stuck in my mind are;
Ryde sandbank, - shortly after Colin had done it ( and the fact that he reported it on here should have been enough to stop it happening, but no)
Completely messing up the choice of route through a big cruisers wake, dug the nose in and yep, stood and watched the water run up the bow, over the screen and soak everyone in the boat, to say swmbo was not impressed, that would be an understatement!!
Whilst up fareham creek without a workin depth sounder, I decided that I would be safe staying close to the (I thought) floating yachts, nope, they were well and truly on the bottom!! A redesigned prop from that one!
Keep em coming, great reading. :D

Hmm lets see

1. Nearly loosing the trailer at Cobbs Quay slipway without using blocks under the wheels
2. trying to enter Christchurch harbour in the winter with no marker buoys. Me: "dad where's the sandbank", Dad: looks on his touchpad "we are on it" Bang!!.
3. Parents boarding the tender from the boat at sandbanks in March, two adults & a dog all on one side of the inflatable led to the inevitable happening.
4. Last year in Yarmouth harbour asking the berthing master where to go I knocked the killcord switch without noticing, go to restart the boat no joy and drifting into the ferry!. Told the berthing master to get a line on me and pull me away when I realised what I'd done Doh.
5. More killcord incidents
6. Misjudging a wake of a cargo ship leaving Southampton which led to a tidal wave going over the boat and my crew who was sunbathing drying off after swimming getting wet again.

That's all I can think of for now.
