750HP

by ChrisH » 29 Jul 2016, 10:19

Today's boating experience.
30 something feet.
20 people plus dive gear.
750HP
Crusing at 30knotts in seas I would not go out in. Massively impressed.

Very nice! Makes a mockery of the dive boats I am used to!

However, I'll take your 750HP and raise you 150 HP.

Yep still here. 3 nights Bangkok. 2 nights on the river Kwai. Stayed at the float house. Highly recommend it. Amazing. Did all the death railway stuff. Very good . Now in Koh Samui until Tuesday.

death valley is next on the cards, we were going to do it the year but lost time for an over night stay and I found it hugely disrespectful to wander in for a 2 hour sight seeing trip just to get the badge. trouble is theres so much else to do and we always get distracted by the rest of the country and Bangkok, LOL

Yep can understand that. I want to go north to Chang Mai. But could not fit that in this time.

What's scary about their dive boats at least. No VHF. Had a chat with one of the dive staff. He has been trying to persuade them. But it seems standard practice to rely on mobiles. Even though there are a few dead spots on the 45km run between islands.

Been on dive boats all round the world ... including one with twin 300hp outboards .... no doubt the one in pic is fast, but it has awful access for divers.
Far better an inboard, and then a full width stern platform with 2 sets of steps ... far better for divers.

The other side of the coin is Rib diving ......... I know it is much loved by dive clubs, but I'll be happy if I never have to dive off a rib again.

Trying to get back in a rib in a 5' swell is not much fun ..

Your right. For a purpose built boat access was terrible. It did have 2 sets if steps either side if the outboards. But.. Still terrible. My 20ft bowrider has better access :-)
