I don't know any detail.
But it's not a good outcome for a brand new engine.

The fact that the engine is so new and requires parts reminds me of a time back in the early 90's when after work in a car Dealership in Henley on Thames. This is fascinating, but probably naff to you guys. Many times, Denis Jenkinson, Jenks or DSJ as he was known in Motorsport Magazine (look him up and you'll see how privileged I thought I was to have known him) came into the showroom after closing the AFN (Fraser Nash) archives which were just down the back and part of the premises, to talk about motoring, whether it was to talk about new cars or chat about the drive home.

One of the most poignant moments and one I've always remembered was when he said that eventually engine manufacturers will scrap an engine rather than repair it because the cost to build it was less than the repair. In this case they are still going to scrap the head and put on a new one, I don't think it will be long before they will be scraping the whole unit, as Jenks said.

Our friends Broom has had it's new bellhousing fitted today . But on a trial the gearbox is making a noise.
It seems the gearbox has been damaged in the incident that cracked the bellhousing. Therefore , other than the possibility of joining us for our short non-tidal leg tomorrow, I think the skipper has decided the Broom will not be able to continue with us on our holiday trip.
I guess it's possible the gearbox might be fixed or replaced fairly quickly and they might catch up with us later.

In the meantime the weather seems very variable and the sea state generally on the moderate to rough side . No issue on the river but we are by no means assured of making a North Sea voyage. Anything more than a 'slight' sea is not for us.

There are spare places - but not as empty as the photographs might suggest.
Four boats at Wells today are from our home marina at Farndon.
The two sports cruisers are leaving tomorrow.
£25 a night here which is not bad given the brand new floating toilet/shower/laundry block , free wifi and electric included.

The two sports cruisers that left wells today had been to the Deben and enjoyed it. They are both diesel powered but didn't refuel here in Wells.
I presume your Fletcher has a petrol engine . I doubt it would have the range . There is no petrol station in Wells.

Just plotted a route on navionics Wells is about 90 nm from the Deben. I have 100 ltrs and can easily carry 60 lts in cans so I could do it one way but not there and back. Taxi from wells to petrol stn with the cans would do it but expensive. No real places to duck into if the weather kicks up either so too far for me.

What I will do one time is Deben to lowerstoft and onto the broads

Looks like rain tomorrow at the time we would be travelling if we were to leave Wells . Also Sunday and Monday looking windy.
So we now plan to depart on Tuesday .
The facilities at the port are really nice and plenty of local shops and places to eat out to keep us well fed . We had a picnic on the beach this afternoon.
