Oh dear what have I done

by ColinR » 08 Jun 2016, 21:56

Put joka on the market last week at a good price and have just accepted an offer at near as dammit the offer price. Thus ends 6 years of very happy Monterey ownership . Subject to a sea trial she is going to a new entrant to the boating scene so I hope they have as much pleasure of of her as we have.

Not sure what we are doing now, having a sabbatical to have a think. I will still be about so if anyone wants crew bear me in mind.

Will be having a clear out soon, couple of Ringo's and a kedge anchor etc so watch the for sale section.

Very sad day in many ways, joka has been an important part of the family.

What have you done my dear friend. We'll talk about the ringos.

As already said, crew any time.

By the way, the move went well. Going to look at our views tomorrow.

I'll get you some boat relief cos you'll be helping me choose my next one

Nice one Ian, how's life living out of boxes then

I'll put up a list of odds and sods sometime next week when I've had a chance to sort stuff out. I'm away this weekend so things are not going to happen till next weekend.

I'll be leaving a card in the boat with the boatbanter url on it :D

The one advantage I think of a small trailerboat that fits in your garage or on your drive is that as long as it's paid for (mine is) if it doesn't get used, it's no real loss. I don't use mine anything like I should do or want to, but there's no point selling it as it's not costing anything (other than insurance).

Why have you sold up? I have I missed a thread?

No missed thread. The reasons are many and varied but as a précis.

1) My daughters are now all grown up and no longer want to go ringoing / skiing and generally being out on the boat with us.
2) We've had a lot of family issues that have soaked up too many weekends when we should have been boating.
3) Because of 1) the Monterey is not really the ideal boat for us any more as our style of cruising has changed, more cruise less blast.

I think we'll end up with something a little more sedate that we can spend weekends away on. The Monterey is a but snug in that regard. As to what, who knows, I've not seen the ideal boat yet so we're taking a short break to decide where our needs take us.

Don't worry, you've not seen the last of me yet!

I agree about the trailer style of boating but I'm probably heading north of 25ft so that is not really an option now.

It's a sad day. If you do decide on going cruising (i.e. more than a weekend away) the only bit of honest advice I can give you is North of 25 isn't enough. You want 32 plus foot. You'd be gobsmacked just how much difference each couple of feet give in terms of interior volume that is airy as well as useable without getting in each others way.

A very sad day but it goes to show that you priced the boat at the right level and it has sold.

I really think you should stretch to 37 feet....................... You know you want one :D

100% agree Nick, its the only thing that keeps me going (boat wise) at the moment. Of all the problems Ive had with it's disposal 'demanded' by 'others' in the past when she should have gone its worth it. It costs me £13 a month to keep on the drive so is no arguments no drain on £. etc etc.

Yes its not ideal to have it sat around not moving but the alternative is to sell and have nothing and I won't be able to afford anything again in the next 10 years at the rate Im going (failing). Even 3 times a year s still better than none. They only thing me and the Mrs 'argue' over is the weather and how crap it is
