5 days at sea, 186 miles, 500 litre diesel, Blue skies

by BruceK » 01 Jun 2016, 08:57

My cousin arrived for a flying visit on the Thursday evening before the Bank long weekend so we had planned on getting out and doing some tope fishing for the Friday and Saturday, returning to Conwy on Saturday evening to pick up the family and set out again until Monday evening.

Amanzi being prepped for the journey on Thursday and waiting for the morning tide

We set off from Conwy on the rising tide to make passage through the Menai Starights and The Swellies to reach Caernarfon Bar on a single tide. Which is of course a race against time but we made it.

That evening we took anchorage off the south coast of Anglesey at Dinas Trefriw and fished pollack off the tender along the bluffs and cliffs

before returning to the boat with our catch and dinner. The following morning we set out into deeper water for tope and traversed the various marks around Caernafon Bay without success being continually dogged by Bull Huss and little dog fish who I was amazed to see capable of swallowing a whole mackerel with a size 8 hook

That evening was a quick run back to Conwy, through the straights again to the rising tide. Amanzi at cruise revs (3k rpm with WOT being 3.9k) She's pretty quick for an old tub.

After dropping my cousin off and picking up the wife and kids we headed back out to Dinas Trefriw for an overnighter and beach bbq

Jaw dropping beauty imo

Anchorage, which we had to ourselves until a yottie turned up for a bit of comfort :(

That evening the kids and Admiral fished for maccies

But at least we had the beach to ourselves

After a pleasant day we again raced the tide back exhausted but happy. It was an awesome weekend, so unusual for a bank holiday, just MAGIC!

Amazing pictures Bruce and the family look so happy and relaxed.

5 days at sea, 186mls, 500 litre's diesel, sounds expensive, is it 651 yds per litre of diesel. Humm, that's not cheap, but isn't marine diesel cheaper if you have the split for heating?

But........hang on a minute! 8-)

Where would you be able to take in those views, have a lone anchorage spoilt by just one yacht, be able to have a beach to yourselves, catch fish for supper, enjoy life to the full by exploring places that not many are able too, sunsets to die for, your own beds to sleep in, your very own sea water swimming pool and return home exhausted but happy and do it for 4-6 people at about £400.....ummm let me think for a several year's or so!

A great value 5 day 5 star holiday, incredible. :D

The fuel bill was just over 300 quid that equates to roughly 60 quid a day. Now I dont know when last you took a family on any outing but let me assure you... thats a cheap date :D

In my defence I'm so used to the local raggies giving me gyp about my fuel consumption I read it with a bias. Sarcasm doesn't always read well

Understood, it's always difficult to read someone's thoughts properly when written, unless of course its in Shakespear's speak, but then it would take a whole chapter to say "That's a nice boat, very economical". Except it might be......"It is that beauty I see before me, nay such should be associated with the best beauty in the world and.....with the grace of a thousand angels, gently flowing in the morning sun. But haste, do I see that she has power beyond belief and that she can fliest at the highest amount...." something like that!

To clarify, I first thought, oh that's pretty good so worked it out. Then I thought someone else may think its juicy, which is why I put in the other bits, like where would you find this for the price etc. The if you tried to find a 5day trip for £3-400 it might take a few years. :D

Still think she's a beaut Bruce. :D
