Well She Started

by Bigplumbs » 09 Apr 2016, 15:57

Did the final few things on the boat today ready for planned launch next Sunday (17th April) Weather permitting.

I started the engine which went ok once I realised I had the kill switch switched to off doohhhhh. Warmed her up for about 4 mins and she idled ok. Did not put her in gear I will do this next Sat just to be sure

warmed her up so I could use my pella pump to do the oil change. That went well but it takes a very long while to suck out all the oil via the dip stick hole. Oil filter was not too tight so managed to change that ok. Used the pella pump to suck out water from the bilge also which again went well

Now just hoping for good weather next weekend and through the week. The main issue is making sure mums grass is not too wet for me to pull her off. Don't want to churn the grass too much with the Disco

You're on a mercruiser leg? Not a good idea to put her in gear while the motor is running. Or at least if you do keep it in idle always and always shift into neutral for a good few seconds before engaging reverse etc. Much better to test if the gear shift works with the motor off. Hear a number of stories of the gearbox stripping with people doing this. Something to do with propeller needs to be loaded. Especially true if you have a heavy stainless jobbie on.

Low gear with no throttle, she'll nudge her way out without wheel spin. :)
