Nickys Canvasworks and Sail Clinic Brighton

On occasions a zip breaks loose on your cockpit/camping cover or you might want a new set. You might want a new set of cushions or a bespoke set of covers made.

In my case I left the original Sea Ray Bow Cover on my boat in the barn last year and was invaded by mice, leaving a dozen holes in the cover, rendering it useless, plus they had chewed through the Canvas overall fitted cover.

I called Nickys Canvasworks who are at Brighton Marina and Nicky couldn't have been more helpful. We took the old Bow Cover down as a template and she matched the material exactly to the cockpit camping cover colour, bearing in mind the old covers are 25 odd years old and a type of two tone cotton twine. Only difference, it's a modern synthetic breathable material but the same pattern, incredible.

The only downside was that she preferred that I brought the boat to her so that she could fit the press studs properly rather than use the old cover measurements, she said it was more accurate. One of the studs was missing off the boat so she moved the cover stud slightly and popped in a new one, all in the price.

Next I gave her the fitted Sea Ray heavy overall canvas cover which the little blighters had chewed through and she put several patches on that too. A cheap over cover is about £100, however proper breathable semi waterproof covers are upwards of £400. I had change out of £200 for the lot.

They have a well stocked chandlery (very dangerous while you're waiting  ) which doesn't appear to be a swindlery and also a recycling secondhand corner with a few unusual items.

If you want covers, cushions, sails made or repaired in the Brighton or South Coast area I can highly recommend her. :)

That's nice to know Ian, and excellent timing! My dearly beloved wants a sunpad for the front of the boat and purchasing the correct one from Jeannneau would be extortionate.

I will give your contact a call and see if they can do something.

Let Nicky know that you heard of her through me and I'm sure she'll look after you.
Take care

You have made me think about where I am storing my canvas etc. I think I will bring it into the house to get it away from the mice or better find some sort of box to put it in. I think one of those large 'Really Useful Boxes' would keep a Mouse out

I too have a cover made by her. I can't say anything about the service as it came with the boat but can certainly say that the quality is very good.
Mine is an all over heavy duty winter cover. Very good indeed!
