London Boat Show

by argonaut » 09 Jan 2016, 13:45

Been offered free tickets - but boats I'm interested in will not be on display .... so to avoid me buying loads of boat bling I don't need, I'll give it a miss.

Had a good day at the show yesterday.

Some very nice boats there - particularly the hand made slipper launch at £360,000!!

400hp outboard on show as well - see brother for an idea of size.

Caught train to Waterloo then Thames Clipper down to 02. Then across river on Emirates cable car - its fantastic and the views are brill. Could see thames barrier and whole of the city.

Few more pics from Princess 65 and view from emirates cable car, plus that slipper launch again.

Was sorely tempted to buy a Whaley rib style boat - they caught my eye as you walk into the main entrance. Made from polypropylene they are pretty indestructible.

Better than a rib in many ways - the tubes wont deflate, proper hard floor, seating at the edge and a well to put your legs in. The chap recommended that I look at the video where they try to destroy one.

Would be nice for son to potter up Hamble with the 4hp on with his friends. Just checking what load my roof rack will take as dont want to spend out for a road legal trailer if only travelling 1 mile to launch it.

What colour should I go for then chaps?

Yes, great to meet up with Chris and Mark.

Had a good day at the show, it was quite quiet in my opinion and there did seem to be a bit of space around. However the smaller boats representation seems to get bigger and bigger with the return of Monterey and a couple of brands I had not really heard of. Four Winns, Chaparral, Bayliner, Regal, Nautique, Robalo, Chris Craft all had representation there and there were also a significant number of "Fisher" style boats.

We didn't buy anything but took the opportunity to talk to a lot of people so a nice "boaty" day out.

This claims to stand up to throwing the boat around. I somehow have a vision of James happily throwing the boat around and me and Elaine sitting in the back being covered in Prosecco, grapes and pork pies like some sort of Top Gear challenge.

James thought of auditioning, but not much call for Pink Floyd guitar riffs.

A good day out, although I did think the Show seemed quiet for a Sunday.

Great to meet up with Martin, James, Chris and Dan - didn't think to take any pics though - except for some RIBs / tenders on my shortlist! Booked for a lift out this morning but looking forward to the new season already...

Show does look quiet as well,
