Reunited with an old friend :)

by Gazjen » 11 Dec 2015, 21:37

In a bizarre twist I've ended up buying my old boat back. For those that don't know or can't remember it's a Regal 2550 4 berth cuddy with 5.7 Gsi motor.

Turns out the previous owner only used it for two months then put it in storage where it's been for 13 months. It took 2 hours with the jet wash to remove the green slime!

How's this come about then, if you don't mind the question?
What was it you got in her replace to start with?

Long story short I sold because I couldn't get the family interested in using her but the only person it upset selling it was me. So after a few months a friend of mine who has been buying a boat forever finally brought one so that was my excuse to buy the little Fletcher. I used it over the summer but missed the opportunity of being able to over night on it so that got me looking at cruisers, having travelled the length of the country looking I decided I didn't want anything that large so started looking at sports boats again and sent the owner a text asking if he was thinking of selling and he was :)
I know I'm biased but the regal really is in a class of its own, it's still a cuddy and thus small enough to mess about on ski, tow toys etc but then it's also a 4 berth so it can sleep the whole family in relative comfort oh and it also has a fridge for the beer :)

That wasn't cut very short was it

Apart from buying it back those were very similar reasons why I bought the Fletcher GTO

Now all we need is the spring to hurry along

Oooh nice! Fancy a Regal raft-up on the Thames this summer? Blazers and straw boaters ready for Henley.

Glad it all worked out well for you, completely agree about the size, gives so much more flexibility. Lovely boat! The one downside of mine is it doesn't have the second cabin but me and my eldest are more than happy on the (very) large sunpad, which leaves loads of room inside for the wife and little one. Not an ideal sleeping layout but more than good enough for us for the few overnights we do.
So have you already got rid of the replacement you brought or will that stay? ;)

I seem to remember the whole set up in a car park and being as long as an articulated Lorry... :D

Thanks everyone, yes I'm certainly up for a Thames trip and I've still got the F150 I thought about selling it but it's just too useful :) I've been looking to replace it with an X5 but trying to find one with all the right bits is a knightmare (even a 3.5t tow cap is an option) I have sold the Fletcher although it's still here for the winter, I think the engine package appealed to a friend of mine :P

When I get a min I'll dig some more pictures out, I feel better now I've got it back.

Hey Gaz

Sorry I didn't reply sooner.

I'm so pleased you managed to reconnect in such an awesome way. That 2550 Regal is a superb piece of kit.

I have to say, Regal really do have the Sportscruiser world summed up at the moment and although some say that Cobalt may be the top of the range, I'm not so sure that both Regal and Monterey don't have the edge.

I look forward to seeing some great pictures in the Readers Boats Forums.... :)
