Boat Shelter

by Bigplumbs » 27 Nov 2015, 14:25

Decided to keep the new acquisition in a shelter over the winter, That way I can work on her undercover. It will also keep her better.

Here is what I bought:

http://www.dancovershop.com/uk/product/ ... g-pvc.aspx

£825 delivered with a free gift of ratchet hold downs and safety pegs. It is 500g/22 PVC which is also quite good fabric with doors at both ends.

I have bought a dancover before and they are very good. Lets hope it is ok against the wind. The smaller one I have is

Now at some point the Missus Plumbs is going to get a bit jealous that you have a new found love in your life and are spoiling her rotten. I trust you kept the peace by buying Mrs Plumb a matching outfit?

Very nice cover indeed. :)

Yes it is on grass but the tyres are on paving slabs. Tyres don't like to be left on grass too long

The main reason for getting the tent is I have loads of little jobs to do and I can leave it under there with no covers on and tinker away all I want. I can even get a little heat in there as well If I want and a light. Could even have a little sleep on the boat. Like camping in a boat in a tent. Sort of novel :)

This IS new love. :D That's fantastic Dennis, hopefully winter won't drag it's heels. I know exactly where you are standing mate. Me all over. Up North here at least, winter's arrival was sudden and ferocious. For once I'm not looking forward to this weekend's work on the boat, no sir, not at all. Even the motorbike looks more inviting, so a tent does make sense, but not the sleeping bit, smacks of infatuation. Get Mrs Plumbs heckles up for sure, you might be forced to sleep under your canvas soon

I agree, tyres don't like to be left on grass for too long and they don't like to be left in one place for too long either, they tend to get flat spots. If you want to be ultra cool, buy some cheap axle stands, jack up the trailer and pop the stands underneath. Keep the tyres off the ground and they'll be ok.

The reason I asked about grass is, in a similar way in which washing dries better on concrete rather than on a lawn, your boat being covered by a waterproof material, will in effect keep moisture in as well. My little boat has been kept in a barn for a number of years and is completely dry except that the base is thin layer of gravel covered soil. Every Winter the hull which is covered by a loose Tarpaulin, thrown over, not tied down and is there to keep the dust and leaves out. However, during wet weather, invariably the hull is covered with moisture. I use the moisture traps we have spoken about, but placing another old Tarp on the floor stops this happening. The air flow through has kept it very dry and no need for heating. :)

The Boat shelter has been delivered. About 7 boxes each one weighing a tonne or that is what it seems like. It is going to be interesting to put up. Just need some decent weather
