trip south this weekend

by betty boop » 10 Aug 2017, 13:25

Venturing down to Chichester harbour tomorrow, no one seems to talk about it much, any tips or hints? I thinking Itchnor launch and their visitor moorings?

I too avoided it when going from London with better options either side but some stupid 18 y/o with a birthday booked a caravan in Pagham for his big celebration and some other stupid idiot has been asked to tow a boat down there and escorting 10 other 18/19 yo's - hopefully with a small weather window to match and wondering what to do in the weather/wind?

Great place in my opinion. Do some YouTube searches, they'll be useful. Spect you know a lot of it dries out.
Pagham is great seems to be mostly a holiday park now.
Hmmm 10 x 18/19 yr olds, eerrr I'll stay well clear.

thanks Ian no moral support then? I was going to stay well clear of the idea, i need neither the cost or the agro but I relented and now have a boat 3/4 loaded it may sink let alone launch. the harbour master was very helpful so I may give their berths a try and see how we go. Feels like a foreign holiday going that far south nowadays.

Can't help either I'm afraid. Sorry. Never taken my boat there. But I think as already mentioned be aware of which parts dry out and if course the tides. . I would image it is all speed limited as well. Personally I'd be more concerned about the 18 year olds.

Absolutely not!

However if you wanted to drive an hour and 20 mins west, we could put you up and show you a good time. :D

Haha, good luck to you BB!!!
Don't forget you have the Witterings where there is a great sandy beach which you can get right into on a boat, great for a few hours swimming / playing about.
About 40 minutes from Chichester harbour I think.

Ah, just re-read your original post, tomorrow was today!!
Sorry about that..
So how did it go anyway, did you have a good day? Fairly sheltered inside the harbour I imagine, very windy everywhere else I've been today!

yes I was a bit late posting and missed out on an over night at the Wittering anchorage which was a bummer, we only found it as we went out of the harbour on sunday. out at sea was still a bit lumpy so we came back in after all 4 young one's chickened out of a ringo ride despite giving it a large one that they would ride all day & decided fishing was hard work. So we stopped at Witterings and threw out the anchor so they could walk to shore, which again they couldnt manage to do  A short trip out and guess who was left to clean up the boat after they got out and buggered off.
