Boating Holiday Booked

by Bigplumbs » 04 Jul 2017, 19:03

We have just booked a little cottage for a week on the banks of the River Fowey in Cornwall. Going to take the 17 foot bow rider and a SIB to explore the Fowey.

Anyone have any experience of this area they would like to share

No experience of boating on the Fowey, but we booked a holiday cottage at Lerryn (on the Fowey) for our silver wedding anniversary ( 27 years ago) and thought it was a fabulous area, we just wished that we had a boat there. Enjoy your holiday, it should be super with your boat. I hope that you get some nice weather. Geoff.

I took the boat and it rained every day so she stayed in the camp site car park all week. Not sure you want to hear that though  but it looked very nice.

Ian (BB) - remind me when you book a holiday so that I can choose different dates!!! By the way I shall not be taking up your kind offer of treatment for my addiction as I actually quite enjoy it. Geoff. Big Plumbs, just make sure that you don't holiday at the same time as BB. Geoff.

What a great place to visit. The small coves around that coastline are a delight and if you are fortunate enough with the weather, from the sea they are beautiful.

There is a slip in Fowey in the North Car park but I don’t know if its all states of tide, but it looked ok. I’m sure the river is navigable up to Golant if the tide is with you. There’s a great little bay at the mouth and to the East of Fowey mouth another great bay called Lantic Bay.

If you’re feeling adventurous, nip round West to St Austell bay and at Polkerris there is a small beach with a place called Sams on the Beach. I’ve not eaten there but I’m told they do great food. Opposite is Charleston Harbour, where you can see some old tall ships. There’s a bistro called Wreckers serving amazing Sea Food. Be warned though, if you go by boat the outer harbour dries out big time. There’s a charming little art gallery there were we bought a lovely painting of the harbour.

There are so many place to explore and Falmouth may be in reach, if you cut across the bays its about 20 nautical miles by sea. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Thanks Ian.

I had another little adventure in the last 2 days. I had a 600 mile round trip (Suffolk to Devon) and a night in Devon to collect this little baby. They are a s rare as Rocking Horse Do Do cos of their light weight for motor that will get my little 3.2 m sib on the plane.

My little 3.2 m sib is an aluminium floor with air keel so it will fold up and go in the car (ie does not need to be towed on a trailer) This means that if we go away in our caravan we can take this for a little fun on the water. I am going to take it to the Fowey to explore upstream etc.

These are very difficult to come by and this one is immaculate under the hood.

That's a pretty powerful motor for its size. Am I right in saying that they are made by Nissan, consequently I must think they are very reliable. :)

You are correct Nissan. I think this is the smallest and lightest 2 stroke in the 10 hp category that was made. Very hard to find them for sale. Going to try it on my 3.4 m sib tomorrow

Tested the 9.8 yesterday and am very pleased. It gets on the plane quickly with either 1 or 2 on board and is very quiet and quite light. This is our tender to our larger boat so we can now have some fun when we are anchored in the larger boat
