Just a quickie, not wishing to hijack the topic but, a massive applause to you for getting the Pan Pan right. The first time one has to use it in anger, so to speak, one hopes to get it right. So many people call in a Mayday incorrectly for something other than sinking or danger to life. I have to say, if this ever happens to me I would like to have your composure. I do hope you have managed to claim on your insurance.

I have been interested in the idea of this for some time. The coastline looks fantastic.
Whilst I am more than happy with planning a nav track and to a certain extent the weather that could be expected it was when I worked out how much fuel I'd burn there and back that put me off a little.
I even tried working with the idea of trailoring via the ferry (to Guernsey) but that was rediculously expensive also.
I certainly like the idea of it though, especially if part of a group.

Thanks for the kind words Ian. Did you hear the call on channel 16?

Rather than steal this thread here is a link to what happened if you want to know more. Sorry its a different forum!!

http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.ph ... the-season

It was a pretty high adrenaline moment needing to call something in, but at least its been experience. Wont find out if I am insured until later this week as the surveyor has just finished his checks.

Anyhow, I will keep myself going by thinking it will all be ok, the insurance will pay and I will be back on the water ASAP. And then Alderney......!

glad it worked out for you even though I had to go that 'other place' to read it :-) and £ wide I hope they pay up on insurance too. .

unfortunately it takes an event to learn and become experienced. no RYA numbers can make up for that.

Once again, not to hi jack the thread, sorry Betty, but worth saying, I just read the details from your link and worth adding that I think a job was well done on your behalf there!
I often find in another place, a lot of people are very quick to find fault and critisise, often unfairly.
A sudden rush of S**t to the brain in an out of the ordinary situation is perfectly normal (and therefore easy to criticise) ( and clearly didn't happen in your case!!) so I think when it is dealt with as you did BZ's (sorry naval term) are deserved!
Fingers are crossed for you on the insurance front!! Likewise for me, if no cover that would = end of season!!

And to add to my above post, something like this is so easy to happen and unfortunately unavoidable!! Therefore, a cruise in company makes so much sense!! :D
