Motorboat and Rib Show - Swanwick

by Ianfs » 21 Mar 2017, 22:03

Motorboat & Rib magazine show this weekend

The show is at Premier Marina, Swanwick this weekend, is anyone going? ColinR and I will be there so if anyone wants a meet up and chat, it'll be great to see you. :)

I don't know much about the show, but if its anything like the old Sportsboat & Rib magazine shows we used to frequent, it should be good.

We are on the boat at Mercury this weekend so I may try and talk SWMBO into popping round to Swanwick for a looksee.

It was great to meet up with ColinR Saturday, we arrived at the show just after 10:15 ish. Andy (Sprocker) also went along with his wife, unfortunately we missed you, but hope you enjoyed it. It would have been great to catch up, but we had seen everything and spotted some more boats across the river. :)

It wasn't a very big show, nothing like the Soton show and I would say not as big as the Sportboat & Rib shows we used to do, but there were more visitors than I expected to see so who knows, it may well get bigger. We were engrossed in conversation about our next boats and spotted this one, a Finnmaster Pilot 7 Weekender and climbed aboard. I have to say the helm seat was very comfortable and it was well appointed. The sales assistant told us this particular boat was £140,000 at which point we gulped, however I've been online and found they are only in the £70k bracket so I think she was a tad mistaken.

Just as we had finished chatting to the lady from Idealboat.com (the one who didn't know how much they were  ) about the Finnmaster, NickT arrived, consequently more boating chat ensued. It was great to meet up with Nick, he showed us around a similar boat to his new one and we could see what he meant about the social aspect of the Cap Camarat. Then attention turned to the Merry Fisher's and a deep boating conversation took place in the fairly spacious cabin of a 755.

Fairly good sleeping arrangement as well.

We couldn't work out why anyone would want this, unless you had a big enough swim platform or a garage.

This was about the size of the show, there were some boats on the pontoon around the corner, we had a nose around the Greenline hybrid, I didn't get any pics though, but it was well built and a cracking idea.

And then wandering around Clipper Marine's used boat show, we spotted this.......... and the good news is, according to the website, Jorida is under offer. :D

Finally we had to climb aboard a very familiar boat for ColinR and as he said, the helm felt very comfortable. 8-) Folding radar arch, oodles of room, fridge on deck, massive head behind the passenger consul, 6.0 L V8 Mercruiser and it's trailerable.

Sorry we missed you Ian, I should probably have called you as soon as we arrived, no doubt there will be other occasions.

I was particularly taken with the Rodman Spirit 31 down on the pontoons, I thought it was a good looking, very well laid out boat, and the transom seating arrangement was brilliant. The two huge Mercury Verado's hung off the back helped with the looks!

I'm sure there will be other occasions Andy.

Was the Rodman on the opposite side to the Greenline?

Yes, two Rodmans were at the end of the pontoon on the left, the Spirit31 was the first one you came to.

Indeed she is under offer Ian, and since then survey and service have been carried out and she is in the water ready to head off to her new home in Poole Harbour.
Final transfer has yet to take place so could still go t*tsup but fingers crossed. I had to take a hit and throw in the tender and outboard but as my contract with Premier ends on Friday it was a timely sale.

So the money pit has closed and my wallet will be refreshed, now when is SBS this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS I was down at Swanwick on Saturday to run up the engine, just to make sure it started, which it did first prod, and I had a quick look around the show, not an awful lot there I thought but certainly a fair number of visitors judging by the number of cars parked all over the place.
