Outboard problems

by NickG » 07 Mar 2017, 09:06

Hi I have a 1978 Johnson 6hp outboard. It ran fantastically until the gear linkage came apart. I reconnected it and put it back together. It started and ran fine but I notice it wasn't pumping water anymore. Have I missed something or missed a connection ? Any help greatly appreciated

Was it run in salt water? If so how long was it sat without running?
May have a salt build up?
I had to strip my 2.2 down completely because of this.
May be an option and just coincidence?

No it was serviced had some some new parts and run in fresh clean water for 10 minutes ! After a full day of research I think it might be the water tube that goes into the top of the water pump ( it might not be in properly) !

I suspect that when the work was done on the selector the pipe was not connected properly.... Easily done
