Weight

by Bigplumbs » 20 Feb 2017, 07:09

Last year was the first year I kept my 19 ft Fletcher GTS Sports Cruiser on a swinging mooring. Doing the same this year.

Last year being keen I put quite a lot of stuff on board that we did not use. We have taken those items we did not use off this year. I recon the total weight we have removed (including only filling the water tank half full) will be about 30 KG do you think this will make much difference to the performance of the boat . Or is 30Kg not significant

Hi Dennis,

Not really significant but as they say "every little helps".

I removed water tank, cushions and kept weight to a minimum. With 5 people on board it was a struggle to get on the plane.

Of course i wont have that problem in a couple of weeks :)

It's the weight of a child and as Nick says every little helps.

What does "performance" mean to you? It means a lot of things to a lot of different people. Handling, hole shot, top speed, or all of the above? :D

All depends on where the weight was really...for instance 30 kg removed from a bow locker would make a massive difference to engine trim setting , getting over the hump and fore and aft balance....if it was all in a belly locker like some of the Fletchers have for skis etc.... it would generally speaking improve acceleration slightly and reduce stability in a tight turn a little, but if running in the sea, probably not that noticeable.....
