Healthy market

by ColinR » 24 Jan 2017, 14:15

Browsing a certain brokerage in Southampton I see that two well known boats to this forum are now sale pending. I'm very impressed that Matt's boat is going so well, evidently under priced :D

Joka-tu on the move again as well after less than 2 months on the market. ;)

Other boats on the site have been on their for ages however so it seems that newer clean and well looked after sports boats are sought after, older ones are harder to shift.

I am sure James will be along to provide his own input but he was only saying the other day how surprised he was at how active used boat sales were at the moment considering that he thought January was supposed to be slack.

I'm not surprised as we just don't see many Used Sportscruisers in the 25ft to 30ft range above year 2008 except from maybe Bayliner. We have had a good winter on the Thames with several boat sales both New and Used.

Interesting what you said about clean well presented boats selling Colin.

I was thinking about popping down to Cobbs tomorrow to look at the Monterey 270 which is in the add just above eljay. Looking at the photos though she looks as if there might be some work required i. e the swim platform bolts are rusted and the stern drive looks a bit corroded. Furthermore, is that a Mercruiser transom shield supporting a Volvo or Yanmar drive?

Must be a healthy market going by the LBS entrance figures, only down 5K to 89K ish, hasn't fallen below that since 2012 and they have a good excuse. may be I was wrong and the LBS will go strong for years, (humble pie smiley)

I just had a look at our marina's website and see they have sold some boats in January.
Remarkable for the time of year.
However some perfectly good boats have not sold. I think that's because the asking price is too high.

Can't agree more with that either Martyn. I sometimes wonder who dreams up some of the prices I've seen out there. Makes me think that some boats are advertised tongue in cheek and are not earnestly for sale.

I did pop over yesterday to Cobbs on spec but couldn't find it, so I'm going to call to ask were it is and may go over later.

I agree the Cranchi looks great and has a good engine combo.

Unfortunately I got carried away and got chatting to a really nice retired chap about his Sealine F33.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that we set our budget way too low.

fatal but common mistake Ian, the 'boating budget' is always too low.
