The time has come.... (its not good!)

by Matt13 » 06 Jan 2017, 15:13

After much deliberation and a heavy heart it looks like I will now be selling Eljay,

The cost of mooring on the drystack each month compared to the usage is ridiculous, plus any spare time I have is spent triathlon training, the kids and wife dont particularly enjoy going out on the boat so it looks like selling her is the only option.

I want to get back into it in a few years when my training eases up and the kids are older, thats the plan anyway.

So i'll be looking for a broker soon,

James looks like this could have been our last trip out on Eljay together!

A man has to do what a man has to do. I remember you bought eljay so that your family may enjoy boating with you and having weekends away etc.

It's just one of those things Matt, you did your best to encourage them but in the end it wasn't to be at this stage in your life.

However, it's in your blood now and you've come a long way. You know more about boating than many out there.

You'll be back. :D

Well we might be able to return the favour during the summer, contemplating a few weeks on a dry stack to give a few evening and weekday trips without hauling to the coast

We had two rental boating holidays when the kids were younger . But we didn't buy our own boat until the offspring were old enough to look after themselves .
It was my wife who pressed for us to buy the first boat and then to upgrade to the present boat. Our now grown up an married daughters are occasional visitors to the boat but do not share our enthusiasm.
Spending time on the boat in the marina we have made a number of friends . In recent years virtually all of our holiday time and almost every weekend March to October is spent aboard. The social side is just as important as the enjoyment of using the boat.

For the future , perhaps, you might re-think the type of boat and marina that would be more interesting to your wife. For us boating is very much a shared interest /hobby.

That would be cool, I havent a clue how long it will take to sell so I will still try and get some use out of it until then.

Join the club Matt. Don't think you'll have much trouble selling her, she's a cracking boat. I don't think you'll be long boatless, it gets into the blood :D

I can recommend http://www.southamptonwaters.co.uk as a broker. They've handled quite a few from Saxon over the last couple of years, including Joka-Tu (twice)
