How do you know how much your boat is worth? some 'chap' with a gold tooth ;) just tried to buy betty as he was driving past, £4k no questions. apart from being suspicious I was/am tempted to get rid if he's genuine.

Having sold ours last year the "what is it worth" question only has one answer really and that is "what someone will pay for it".

One of the surprising items that came to light this year when my daughters boyfriend bought a boat is the cost of the trailer. We originally bought our trailer for our Bayliner for £700 and that was for a good condition, maintained and roadworthy trailer. We looked and looked for a trailer for his boat and you get nothing for less than £1000 now unless you want just a trailer for launching and yard work. Therefore I would factor this in as there are lots of really bad trailers out there.

Based on feedback from James I would have thought you would have easily got £5000 on his forecourt really quickly as the "walk past" buyers are tempted by that sort of boat. You might even push £6000. Of course there would be broker fees but I would have thought £4000 was low.

We had a spectrum of offers from full asking price (£7999) to the "let me do you a favour and take it off your hands" offers of £4k to £5k.

Of course, our "in house" broker might wake up soon from his holiday lie in and give you an industry view.......

As said i Think 5-6k would be more realistic, certainly no lower than 5k otherwise it really is a bargain.

Absolutely agree with Martin about the trailer, they are often overlooked in terms of high value, but I would also say that there are a lot of wrecks out there for sale too and I mean wrecks.

Consequently although it is worth what someone will pay for it, there is also what someone who has looked at a lot of wrecks will see it is as a very clean boat on a sound trailer and realise its worth.

The £4k is a chancers bid, tongue in cheek in the hope you'll be stupid enough to say yes. I would have said for such a clean boat & trailer she is worth much more than that. I even think at £6k its pretty cheap. Look at what a new boat would cost someone and with the Southampton Boat Show coming up, would be boat buyers will come away depressed but see you shiney boat at a price they can afford and buy it.

Winter Buyers are starting to come round now looking for bargains. These people tend to know how long a boat has been sitting around for sale and will put in low offers knowing that owners will be paying marina fees soon. If you want to sell now then i would suggest being very realistic pricing it otherwise it won't sell. I think 6K seems right given the current market, there are some at nearly 9k but i doubt they will sell soon and some have been online for awhile.

thanks All

I did say to him £6k as an estimate as I hadn't looked around or priced it up etc. looks like I was almost spot on. if thats the case esp if the trailer is worth £1k ish then theres no way Im parting with her for £3k. May be the next walk past will be more sensible, if not I'll wait for the right time etc. may be soon may be not who knows.

Besides Im still waiting for a fun filled hot summer to spend endless hours of enjoyment on & STILL Waiting :x

I still think £6k is not enough, but £9k too much.

In my experience though whatever it is, if its prepped right, it will sell.

indeed - one worry I have is that the hull warranty work by the large dealer in Chertsey in 2012 has now gone off colour (white Vs pink) - on further investigation Im convinced it is a 12" sq of filler and has no Gell Coat over it. At the time I was told to 'live with colour imperfections' but now Im brewing for a show down to get it rectified or I'll have to pay for it myself.
