Crap summer again

by Baasboat » 02 Aug 2015, 07:59

In the words of Victor Meldrew 'i dont believe it!' Another crap summer yet again. Ive not had my boat out since April, everytime i head to wales at the weekend its either very wet, or very windy and at times both wet and windy.
Is anyone else struggling to get some sea time, or is it just me?

Not just you, me too.

Heading out today with high hopes but facing a current F4 against the forecast of F2 to F3.

Could get a bit damp. At least the sun is shining.

It seems bad to us as well but the boat's log seems to tell a different story. It records 16 trips so far this year against 16 trips by this time last year. The count could be higher but we set ourselves criteria for what counts as a trip. Therefore Thames trips to the pub or a local test do not count unless we go through a lock. Some of the sea trips have not been counted fully as they were not very far (I consolidated 5 trips and called them two trips)

It's been mostly warm and sunny here in Torbay, just flipping windy! Rarely less than F3.

The plus side is that SWMBO has grown more confident with the rougher ride, so it no longer stops us getting out, even if its only a quick pasty run across the bay to Brixham, at least were out on the boat.

The wind has given us a few 'interesting' moments when docking though.......very character building.

Completely agree, I'm finding it so frustrating!
Woke up this morning with high hopes, looked out of the window and the trees are getting blown all over the place.
I'm now off work for 3 weeks and have hopes of getting some decent time on the boat, with a few trips a little further out planned but really don't think this wind is going to go!
Hope you guys that are out today have a decent day!

Got down to Poole around lunch time to find it windy but very sunny. Didn't bother going out but just laid out on the sun lounger!

Hopefully not so windy for the next few days but at least Poole does offer sheltered anchorages for all wind directions. Just not likely to venture far beyond the harbour entrance unless it dies down a bit...

Got out today with Colin and mark ..
Had a play in Southampton water before we left the other 2 boats who wanted to go up the Hamble . We made it over to Cowes but was not the easiest of rides a bit wet !!

Way back was much better and had a race with a Sunseeker . No contest though he he .
Only down side was that my old depth sounder got knocked off when we took off . Small amount of gel coat damage but nothing serious. Good to meet you Mark

Decided to go for it despite less than ideal weather forecasted and boy am I glad we did - amazing weekend.

Ticked off Wootton Creek, Cowes and No Mans Land Fort. Met Andy on Saturday, ColinR and IanH today for a quick blast and and pint(s).
