My First Trip

by Bigplumbs » 07 Jun 2015, 08:01

I am ashamed to say that yesterday the 6th June (D Day) was my first trip out. All went very well. I did however have a very lucky escape. I put my very large bumdle of Keys (which loosing does not bear thinking about) on the bow of the boat after I undid the hitch lock. I then travelled 18 miles towing the boat and arrived at the yard. Went to unhitch and there my keys laid. How lucky was that

That's one of those good luck stories you'd like to hear more of. :)

If that were my boat they would have bounced off in the first 100 yds. :?

Did you have a good time out though?

Glad to hear you had a good day, better late than never, weather has been against mostly so far this year though I think.
Where did you go out?

I was out yesterday from Calshot, and basically got beaten up by the sea and wind. It was a bit nuts out there...

dont worry I can go one worse - 1 day to be precise, we made it out for the first time on Sunday,

Only a 10 min drive to the man made river Welland but a nice sipway thanks to the EA. good job it was local too with a day of 'what next' will go wrong.

a rivit snapped on the hand brake and the auto on gas piston fell loose, what a pain trying to compress that with a ratchet strap and a hammer to avoid a strip down.
Boat shifted on the trailer by accident and came to rest on only the rear and forward wich stopper, result being I was quiet worried her back would break- took some ingenious ue of washing up liquid and lots of shaking side to side so she'd roll back. - next time brake test with rachet straps in place
one bunk slipped - making the above even worse and then snapped the head of f the bunker clamp whilst adjusting.
forgot the bung as well, luckily I just remembered as she rolled into the water.
only to discover when she ran forward she rolled on the bung cable- we had no way of lift the boat of the plug - until 'snap' the cable gave way.
Lost my trailer winch handle - but found another on the floor - bizarre!
flat spare wheel
forgot she was empty of petrol so could only go 2 miles upstream

but the result was a lovely sunny afternoon shakedown trip out - sheltered out of the wind and the only boat on the river so we anchored mid stream and sat in the sun.

We were out in Vonny yesterday too 8-)

Only went up-stream on the Teign as far as the water levels would allow. .. there's very little water left in the Teign when the tide is out. and in some areas not enough to float my kayak either.
