Cuddy or Cruiser?

by Ianfs » 27 May 2015, 10:19

Well that makes 3 of us.

Anyone got any idea how long sails and rigging last?

Racers change every year, if they're serious.

Cruisers sails last for years. Mind you a new set of rags for a 30 footer can cost a few grand. Plus the standing and running rigging,

My mate who went from a mobo to a raggie reckoned it cost nearly as much keeping it up to scratch for chartering as it did to run the mobo so he sold it.

He had a 10m (ish) Fairline I think, and went to a Feeling 41 .

Yep that's what I thought. Finding a used yacht 30 feet ish and above which has been well cared for and had rigging and sails renewed might be an interesting challenge.

Still interested in the motor home me thinks.

Motorhome? Crikey, you'll be joining the caravan club next and holding us all up on the roads!

I would love a motorhome. Then I could tow the RIB and be self sufficient. My issue here is that a motorhome for me has to have a bathroom and shower otherwise it's camping. I would look stupid reversing a boat down the slip with a suitable and true motorhome, unless you rely on park and launch sites. 8-)

No no no, Motorhome is my analogy for a Cruiser!

Although The Minister of Home Affairs and I have discussed travelling Britain in one at some stage. It's amazing how much of Britain we haven't seen.

Interesting fact, Britain's coastline is longer than a trip to Australia and back!

Back to boats, I think if Martins suggestion of a NOx filter for a diesel boat worked then their values may hold. However if then fuel tax is increased, the economy/cost may match that of a big V8 in which case theirs no advantage and residual values would fall...... :?
