A day that did not go to plan

by Xboatboyx » 08 Apr 2015, 18:28

So as some of you may have seen we planned to go to Poole today to give the boat a blast, however when picking the boat up the Range Rover got a flat Tyre. Sadly the spare Tyre is a skinny emergency one therefore would not be suitable to take it down to the coast and a replacement could not be sourced till the afternoon. So rather than waste a day we decided to take the boat back to the yard and spend the day out on the Thames which proved to be very successful and the boat performed faultlessly. We managed to get from Wargrave to Marlow which although doesn't sound far and trust me it isn't by car, at Thames speed its a whole day to get there and back.

Only real snag was when leaving the moorings at Henley and then bang there was a sudden thud and the steering vibrated, i thought we hit the bottom but as i pulled away a set of wheels from a pram appeared. Once back at the yard we inspected the leg and its taken some paint of the Kkeg and some scratches on the props but it looks like my Bravo 3 did more damage to the pram than to itself so will just need a lick of paint.

James

Thanks for the pictures. They gave me great memories!

Especially of the one of the bridge in relatively calm flow. Many times I have seen it with water halfway up the arch pillars because of flood conditions!

The bridge at Marlow doesn't look like it has much clearance for all the gin palaces based at Harleyford estate.

No , you're right James, except that it's so close to the weir it is more easily controlled. The exceptions were fairly recent when the flood plains were full and everything was open. When I lived there it was a notorious bridge for stupidity, it's not very deep below so jumping or diving off was considered extremely dangerous. One of my girls school friends lost his life there, very sad indeed.

However a shortish Fairline Squadron should easily fit! 8-)

Nice pics of what looks like a lovely day afloat. I have to say I really like your Regal, the layout is exactly what we are looking for in our next boat.

How do you attach your fenders to the mid cleats, are you using some type of clip ?

The fenders don't go on the cleats but instead go on some fender eyes using a clip.
