Boat engines, Diesel vs Petrol

I've been having a good look and have been focusing on the Sealine 23/25. The 23 only seems to come with a KAD33 170 yet I recently found a 2008 with a Volvo D3 190. This is it though I thought, until I found that the D3 had variable blades in the Turbo Charger.Several posts went on to say that if not thrashed, the turbo siezes.
Back to square one then, the v8 is still looking pretty good.

What do I know? I have heard the D3 gives problems but the KAD32 is bullet proof. Go for an S28 with twin KAD32's - that's the boat for me

In the olden days we used to be able to put Red diesel in boats, then they changed the rules!!

I remembered that there was a concession though and looked it up. So, if a boat uses some diesel for heating and stuff in a 60/40 split, its about £1 ish per litre...

There's a bit more to it I think, some of you boffins will know more about it but I think some fuel stations ask you to sign for it,

So a Sealine 25 at 17 Gal/hr flat out is about £70 and cruising say 27knts about 5-6 gals/hr , hmmmmm, 27quid odd....that's about 80 quid to go round the IOW, could I live with that, let me think for a nano second!

Or am I dreaming and miscalculated somewhere? :ugeek:
