Insurance Q

by mlines » 14 Oct 2015, 14:58

I have gone to a sales broker, the insurance people said they would accept a valuation from a brokerage.

Difficult with boats ... no Glass's used boat guide.

realistic value - not under valued, I wasn't referring to a £10k boat insured for £1k- insurance companies will use any get out clause they can to not pay or under pay - most of the cheap compare site listing are just that - cheap and Caveat emptor ESP if you falsify policy detail.

argonaut wrote:OK ... Towergate did not win for me.

They came in £446 ( so more than £100 more)
The excess was £250 instead of my current £150

This was their on-line quote ... then I had a call this morning, they were adding discounts etc. ... and thought they could split the difference ... but still be at least £50 more.

Also 100% decider they would not cover me for being towed on my SkySki, either personal accident not 3rd party injury or damage ........ also exclude towing multi person inflatables.
My EIS Sail Plan Policy gives me £1m cover and includes SkySki

They also would not cover the SkySki or any of the watersports kit for loss/theft ... skis, wakeboards etc. they advised I would have to claim, on my house policy.
Current policy covers them under £1000 personal effects .... all in all Towergate seemed very poor for watersports boaters.

It does include, theft, trailer & underwater leg strike. - incl 3rd party damage - I guess in case you hit a sub :-)

Maybe just my circumstances - but their policy was a lot more expensive and a lot less cover.

So if any of you looking for good Marine cover ... you might like to try Porthcawl Insurance Services ......... they have been my broker for last 15 years - and as it seems to proves, they find me good cover at best rates.
They advertise in the back of the magazine .... web site is: http://www.porthcawl-insurance.co.uk/

So looks like my current insurer will get the renewal again.

+1 for Portcawl insurance services.
I just took out my insurance with them.
Much more competitive than my previous broker, and no extra charges for credit cards. In fact, even took Amex. Happy Bunny :D

I am presently insured through 'Y Yacht insurance' .
But I think they might not be good for small fast boats . My boat as a max 29 knots speed.

My renewal invitation should be arriving soon as the policy expires in mid March.

I claimed from Craft Insure. No quibble if you are reasonable. Good people on the whole. Very small brokerage so everything is quite personal.

I used to use CraftInsure but they didn't cover the prop and leg.

Towergate do and are competitive for me.

Funny that because that is exactly what they paid out for on mine.

Could be they've changed the policy. I last used them over 10 years ago. Might get them to do a quote in march when mine comes up.
