Sea launching tip

by mlines » 30 Oct 2016, 15:46

Came across an unforseen effect of sea launching our boat today. The metal dustcaps on the rear wheel tyre valves had corroded on and were almost impossible to remove without destroying the cap and valve assembly.

Finally got them undone and after sorting the tyre pressures I wiped a smear of waterproof grease onto them

Something I discovered a number of years ago that even the most sea water resistance materials may bind with other materials that you wouldn't dream they would.

Great post Martin and a worthwhile reminder.

Many thanks. :)

Im surprised by that - having 'dipped' for a number of years I wonder why I've never had this happen, I wonder whats changed? unless I've been dust cap less without realising.

Ah not cheap disposable trailer ones then.

A smear of silicone or copper grease is recommended then in your case.
