Insurance - ditching Towergate after 20 years.

by NikTheGeek » 16 Mar 2016, 20:10

After being with Towergate (previously Mardon) for c20 years, they've just put my insurance up by around £70 in a single year. £320 to insure a 15 year old 16' boat that gets nowhere near the use it should. My sports car costs £100 a year less to insure!!

So, who are you lot with?

TIA, Nick

Porthcawl insurance. Changed to them this year. There is another thread here some where on this same subject.

I went to haven Knox or whatever they are called now. Towergate seem to think my boat is a superyacht because it's longer than 23ft.

Whichever you chose be sure to read the policy terms and understand how excess might be applied. Not everyone has the same requirements so ploicy that suits one person may not suit another.
Insurance premium tax increased not so long ago . That accounted for a £10 increase over last year for my recent renewal with 'Y Yacht Insurance'.

Staying now :)

After emailing them to cancel, they emailed me back with a reduced premium which is not only less than the quote, but less than I was paying the previous year.

So I'm happy again. Just goes to show, it's worth querying...
