Motor Boat Forum

Am I a traitor

by Bigplumbs » 13 Mar 2016, 10:56

While I like this little forum I am finding it a little slow (in the nicest possible way) I have also signed up to YBW forum an use the Motor boat bit. While YBW is quicker and more people I think most of them are millionaires + and I feel like a poor lad with just a rowing boat. I think I will still use this one and I occasionally post the same thing in both. Are others finding this a little slow

No Dennis, not at all.

I often look in on it too, mainly to see what's being discussed or argued over, normally the latter.

I do find some of the questions asked on there could be better answered here though.

YBW is not full of millionaires. Not by a long shot. It's just that the more vocal ones have a few extra pennies in their pocket so to speak. Most are just your average middleclass professionals in the higher salary bracket and business owners brought to penury by owning a boat so dont be shy there. As for slow here, at least you know you are among your peers that show a real interest and give an opinion appropriate to your needs. Sometimes I get the impression on ybw it's a case of "look how shiny my penny is" and a bit obsessive compulsive about keeping appearances and how shiny their boats are, A sure indication they're trying to fight deflation and that it's a status symbol, but one they can ill afford. The real millionaires actually never post about that stuff but have long diatribes about fekkin tender upgrades and the like on the off chance Motorboat Monthly might feature them in print. Runs to 50 zillion pages because all the accolytes keep trying to curry favour and it's enough to bore your tits off. It is however a mine of information and if you want good advice but without compromise it's the place to get it. The without compromise bit is the downer though. Still, at least you have a mark to aim for.
Why would you be a traitor to be on both? I'm on more forums you can shake a stick at. And that's just boats. Bring in motorbikes and classic cars, FB and the rest and it's a wonder I ever do any work!

I'm with Bruce. I'm on several forums covering a few areas and each one has its good and bad points. Each has an individual style and set of personalities.

Over there (YBW) there is more banter, sometimes bordering on the offensive at times, over here it is gentler but more focussed on our stlye of ownership and boat use.

Horses for courses.

last time I went over there it was on a search for something or other and I came away thinking what a bunch of To##ers some of them seem to be. I think someone here called them keyboard warriors or something like that? In all I can't be a#sd with the arguing and insults, I can get it anywhere in my life I don't need to join a forum in my spare time to hear it too

I will add have you ever been to other forums? Ive got some tricky DIY coming up and have been searching amount others screw fix and sparks regs forums and they are full of people who should just shut up and take a chill pill. Simple questions (some ridiculous some just without thought, most genuine) are answered with abuse and criticism for no reason the than self gratification. In most cases theres only stupid answers not stupid questions and it REALLY gets under my skin when idiots behind keyboards (probably sad F'ks with no girlfriend) want to knock people down or brag about how good things are at other detriment etc etc.

Goes back to the old saying , if you haven't got any good to say - don't say anything.

BB you must have found your way into the Lounge. They're full of raggies you know and some are right cantankerous old geezers. Or maybe you ran foul of an accolyte. Ever seen nature documentaries on social complexity and the links with evolutionary brain growth? It always amuses me when they say this in a sage voice-over while showing the apes and monkeys beat each other shitless to maintain social status and heirachy. You just know you've reached the pinacle of forum wit and intelligence when bun fights erupt. Thats why the old geezers in the lounge are always having it off. They're bright bastids with a lifetime of experience to expound.

I guess this forum needs a good few more members before it takes off. So perhaps just stick with it.

I read posts on YBW most days, I even registered on their as I couldn't see some pictures a while back.
I never post though.
I like it on here as I find it much more personal and friendly!
You can ask a question here and know your going to get at least a couple of really helpful answers,
No arguing, no bitching, just people who are genuinely interested and up for helping wherever possible, and to me, that's exactly what a forum should be about!
I'm sure with time it will grow but let's hope it can stay as friendly and accommodating as it is!
Still looking forward to putting a few faces to the names, roll on the meet in the summer. 8-)
