BBQ on the boat

by Bigplumbs » 12 Dec 2015, 08:11

Have any of you tried one of these. Looks very simple, Clamp to the rail pop in an instant BBQ and away you go.

Nice idea, for that price i'd give it a go if I had somewhere to clamp it on.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a bracket made for a BBQ since I saw one on a regal 2250. Was a great design, I will keep looking but can't find any pictures of it now.
Basically, it was a stainless pole bent in the middle that slotted in to the boat, swivelled outboard with the BBQ on it to cook.
( not the best explanation but will keep looking..)
I'm sure james or Martin will have seen it..?

Do you mean this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHmxe0s4Y5o

Regal have the sink with BBQ on the option list. Sadly despite my boat having nearly every option on the list that's one thing it doesn't have!

Yes that's the one, a nice design! Maybe one day I will get round to coming up with something similar..

And an after-market install on a Regal 2250

It was that video that inspired me but I rather like the simplicity of using disposable BBQ's I am just mindful that my rail needs to be the correct diameter to hold it secure or your dinner could end up in the drink :(

I think having a charcoal BBQ mounted on a GRP boat is a bonkers idea .
Just my opinion.

I have given up with disposable BBQ's as we had a few that proved to be useless.

My present BBQ for boating use is something like this

It has done the job cooking for two people and fairly easy to clean up after use. We use it ashore.

Ditto. An open fire on a boat is a bad idea. Not just the obvious fire risk but all the little scorch marks everytime a charcoal brickette pops and showers the gelcoat and vinyl with mini embers. I'll confess to being very sorely tempted though.

A disposable BBQ actually spits very little if at all. I have used them several times but I must confess not on a boat

My usual test for these things is to google the American forums to see. Usually you see all sorts of dire warnings from the litigation keen ex-colonials. For example, I am going to die a horrible death as I have Smarttabs fitted according to the USA Regal forum which deletes any reference to Smart Tabs as they are so dangerous :)

However I can find none and they seem to be king of BBQs on petrol filled boats.
