Volvo Penta Duoprop

by argonaut » 09 Jan 2022, 22:50

OK … after some help.
Anybody here own a VP with DPS DuoProp drive ?

If so do you by chance own the front prop removal tool. pn 3862797

It is damn expensive for a piece of tube with 3 notches cut in it.

Looking for someone who has the tool and could confirm dimensions.

Are you going to make one Rick?
I may know someone who could get the dimensions for you.

Yes .. not exactly a complicated tool .... certainly better than paying

VolvoPenta tool 3862797 there are several variants.

What I need are length, OD, ID and width and depth of one of the slots.

Hi Rick, really sorry but I couldn't help.

There are plenty of these at not much money ..............

Prop removal tool

But not the same part no. They are massive though and there are a few Youtube vids as well.

As you and Ianh have both said the prices for the one you require are ridiculous.

They look like they are made out of 2" pipe. I suppose you could always take of the rear prop and measure the nut diameter and if you need 3 slots divide the circumference into 3 and cut holes to fit.

I suspect I'm teaching you to suck eggs though. :D

There are several variants of DuoProp …. THE PN I gave suits my drive and several others, but unable to tell if other pn’s will work.

I agree they all look a little different in the pictures don't they.

I still think that it may be a good idea, whilst the weather is miserable, to remove the rear prop then get the dimensions of the nut with the position of the slots. It also looks like you may have to put a small weld in as well. The one you showed also has what looks like pins attached as well as slots.

For the Inner prop removal tool .... are you able to measure the ID and OD
I now have the correct dimensions ..... if yours would fit then I 'd buy.
