Yamaha tacho 6Y8T-11

by robanfield » 28 Sep 2020, 10:34

I have been trying off and on to get this working correctly for a long time, but without success. Engine YCOP etc all work, tacho starts up but no revs no engine hours etc. I only get trim/tilt and image of boat / small dash in centre. I think I have installed correctly. There is only a 4 pin plug on back of tacho, no extra wires or dip switches. Tacho is plugged into hub/device socket. Yamaha 50hp l/s 2016. Everything was bought brand new and only used 4 times owing to illnes. Please have a look at pictures. I have tried to follow wiring diagrams all to no avail. Should there be another cable from engine to controls, I only have 1 large multi cable plugged into engine
I would really appreciate any help.
Best regards to all,
Rob

No responses yet unfortunately. I’m afraid to say that this really is not my area of expertise. Far too many wires and wiggles.
Hopefully someone might be able to offer some advice.

Hi Rob

Welcome to the forum.

A couple of questions...
Has it been working on this engine?
Is it a replacement for one that stopped working?
Is it an addition to the new engine and you are trying to get it to work?

Thanks Lanfs, It came new with the new engine and it hasnt worked properly since I installed it. I do have 2 spare harnesses that came with it, but they look exactly the same as those installed except 1 is about 4 mtr long and the other is a short one. I will take photos of the engine connections and command link connections. That might help.
Best regard, Rob

Extra photos of wiring. Seem to have a few spare bullet connections in engine.

Ok thanks Rob.
We had the gas board ripping up our front garden today so I'll get a good look tomorrow and see if we can't figure this out. :D
