Therapeutic

by argonaut » 14 Dec 2014, 15:16

OK .. so Argo2 is serviced, winterized, under covers and de-humidifer in & running ...next dry w/end will see me put trailer on axle stands and leave it like that until I service brakes in March ready for April first run.

Today though decided to do a little boat related task ... been splicing up some trailer tow ropes used when can't reverse with car attached ... a new painter and some fender ropes ... I find splicing something that is quite therapeutic.

So on a mix of 10mm and 12mm polypropylene 3 strand so far have 9 eye splices, 6 back splices and a couple of SS thimbles.

Learned how to splice 40 years ago ... a skill worth having, a bit like being able to tie the basic knots.

My Dad taught me, I would have said I was good at it when I was a boy but haven't tried it for years.

If you have any photos it would be good to post them. :)

Nice job, haven't done any splicing for years. I wouldn't have said I was ever good at it but could get by.

The advantage now is that there are loads of How - To guides on-line.
Did some fancy bell ropes recently .. never done those before, but found a video for each of the parts.
