Anyone know what this is?

I bought a 1976 Shakespeare Shadow with Mercruiser 140 Stern Drive earlier in the year.

Still no idea what this red light does, neither does the boat shop at the marina. It comes on sometimes randomly when starting the engine. I'm wondering if its a light to say whether I may have flooded the engine? As I did do this recently and the light came on...

Its down near my kill switch, below and to the right of the steering wheel

Can you clarify what you mean by "flooded the engine"?

I'm guessing you mean flooded the engine bay with water so the pump cut in?? Yes?

Or do you mean "flooded the engine" too much fuel in the cylinders so she wont fire?

Have you tried chasing the wire back? IF you can find out where it goes you'll have the answer..

Hi, sorry for late reply I didn't get a notification. Too much fuel in the cylinders.

Yes this was plan B, I was hoping I could avoid that if this light is common, but so far no one knows, so I'll have a look tomorrow when I'm next at the marina.

Ok so I couldn't resist, I went down to the marina today and got my answer...

Its an Oil Pressure light.

Makes sense now as it would be on when the ignition is on, and off when running.

I didn't think of it as the boat has an oil pressure gauge, but that gauge isn't working.

Turns out the tubes that run from the engine to the dials were prone to leaking and splitting, so I guess the owner before me had this electrically controlled one fitted.
