Water Pump Impeller

by Ianfs » 24 Apr 2017, 12:31

Did the PM from Volvo Paul (of the other forum which shall not be spoken about  ) solve the problem or did you manage to sort it out yourself? That was a marathon eh Bruce, I'm so glad you got it sorted. :)

Yes VP in a pm said to check there after everything else had been checked and came up blank. Even so it was masked by the fact there is a double seal on the impeller shaft. One to hold water in and one to hold air out behind it. Because it was not leaking water one doesn't think there is a problem there. And indeed sucking a vacuum on the inlet does indeed create a vacuum. It's only when the shaft spins that the air leak become observable hence the impeller only shredding when on the plane for a length of time. It was a right sod to diagnose and only VP's experience to determine. Even then only after all else was exhausted.

Glad you got it sorted Bruce, really frustrating when there doesn't seem to be a reason for something to be happening.
And like you say, when you feel like you've checked everything it makes you wonder what on earth can be causing it.
Here's to a trouble free season from here... :)
