Balance the amount of damage that it cause if it fails against the cost of replacement.

I'd rather replace every year at a few pounds than have a rebuild due to a severe overheat following a failure.

Same does for oil changes / oil filters etc.

That's one end of the argument. The other is waste, Cost, and time spent and for me boating on a Budget. The total cost of the items you list is not a few pounds. It is nearer to £120 if you do it yourself. I would say £300 + if you pay it done.

One of the issues with these forums is the vastly different financial positions various members are in, But of course that is true of life also. This is particularly true if you venture over to YBW :o.

All views welcome however

Tis true but

Genuine Volvo impeller - £18 Three bolts to remove and refit plus a gasket.

Oil change and filter £50 tops.

Mind you the Volvo impeller is easy to change as it is in the engine bay and not in the leg so it does make a big difference as to what sort of layout you have.

It's the bellows that makes me wince. But again, set against losing the boat if it fails then ........

I'm guessing that must be for a rebuild kit Dennis?

Quicksilver High Performance Gear Oil £ 35.38
Quicksilver Impeller £18.25
Quicksilver Impeller Housing Gasket £5.53
Total £59.16

These prices are from general chandlers, shop around and they are much cheaper. I have to agree though, when you remove the old one they tend to always be in great condition and it seems an awful waste to throw a perfectly good part away. HOWEVER.........................
Engine Rebuild £££££££££££?????

No contest at about £60 DIY! :D

Please stop mentioning those prices. My impellers are 60 a pop. Oil nearly 100. 800 per engine service and the drives this year came to 6.6k because the props were free wheeling in the current the shaft end seals ate through both inner and outer shafts. Damn things must have spun 100 000 nm based on my experience on restoring classics and seeing similar damage on crank shaft end seals. My winter lift out came to 15k all up. Im still smarting.

That is interesting about changing the Volvo ones seems a much easier job. Is that the case on a KAD32 with the dueo set up

Smarting, :O at £15K I would be in some sort of demonised state. That is £6500 more than my boat and trailer cost.

I am starting the engine for the first time this year on the 3 ltr lets hope for the best

Yes a rebuild kit and I did over egg the price a bit to make the point :).

I also kind of subscribe to the principal if it ain't broke don't fix it and worry what I might mess up in doing the change of the impeller
