Loch Lomond Parks Association - are motor boats threatened?

by Ianfs » 10 Feb 2017, 08:26

Looks like Loch Lomond Parks are closing one of the slipways to motor boat owners. Is this just the beginning of a complete ban?

Probably not... not yet anyway.

BUT it will raise extra revenue for the National Park as the slip at Milarrochy Bay was unstaffed and free to use, whilst the one remaining public slipway, Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway, is staffed and is charged for. Of course, I have absolutely no doubt that this had no bearing whatsoever upon their purely "operational decision".

Yes you're right Centaur, plus the other slipway is a memorial and may therefore cause an even greater outrage if it were closed.

Their term "operational" has been drummed up either because they are incompetent or they want to reduce the number of motorised craft and have had to come up with some sort of a plan and decided that the Health and Safety Risk to the other users of the Loch from the local beach would require the slip to be manned. They then used the excuse that low income from " motor boat registration fees" would not cover wages to man it. As you pointed out Centaur, the memorial slip is paid for.

Eerrr am I being a bit thick here and I realise they have claimed motor boat registrations are falling, but they haven't said yet that they have looked into increasing the motor boat fees and charging for the Balloch slip and that if they did, would it or would it not cover the wages to staff it.
