Here we go again - wind

by ColinR » 17 Jul 2015, 08:38

I'm really getting fed up with the weather this year. Earlier in the week it was forecasting F3 - F4 on Saturday then F2 - F3 Sunday with mainly sunny weather.

Lo and behold Windfinder for Calshot now saying F4 on Saturday and F4 Sunday with cloud. After a blustery Friday it's going to be choppy, again, out in the Solent.

A quick sprint across to the Isle of Wight for lunch and back may be all we do on Sunday now and maybe a potter up around the docks to see which cruise ships are in.

Watch out for us, we are on the 13.00 Southampton to Cowes ferry, taking our boat to Yarmouth for the week. We are using the ferry to guarantee we get there given the wind

Seriously though the wind has been a pain this year with most weekends I'm off being too windy. However despite this we have done 11 trips so far this year and have found some days forecast to be rubbish have turned out to be good. Now we just go and I stay overnight onboard so even if we don't get out its still a nice break on the boat. A Sealine S24 would make a nice floating home on water even if you don't go out ;)

I've just spent a week working out of Yarmouth with my work dive tender and RIB. The transit down from Portsmouth on Monday was horrendous  , to the point of considering turning back - 2-3m swell west of cowes!!
Anyway, got there safe and sound and spent the remainder of the week transiting daily to alum bay, needles and freshwater bay.
Although the wind was blustery, F3 +, the sea state was pretty good throughout, especially down that end of the solent where sheltered water can generally be found somewhere. Was hoping for sun, clear skies and no wind but there you go.
Good call going over on the ferry, at least the boat is there then!
Fingers crossed for you next week though... :)
