Lighting board

by argonaut » 20 Mar 2015, 12:22

Think its time to consider buying a new lighting board ... the 7 core cable has once again gone as curly as a telephone handset cord.

Raises a couple of Questions...

I notice that you can now buy LED lighting boards .......
Be interested in views of any that own these, and do you think they warrant the extra cost ?

Secondly boards are available with Reversing lights ... these worth having, or not worth it.

I am not sure if you can get LED and Reversing together (obviously no technical reason why not)

Be careful with LED boards, your car needs to be capable of supporting it or the board needs a built in adaptor to make it look like tungsten lamps for the car.

1. This is because raw LED lights will not operate the trailer light repeater on the dashboard correctly

2. Trailer detection. My Range Rover pulses the lighting circuit to detect the presence of a trailer but it expects tungsten (resistance)
(A) this results in LED lights pulsing on/off once a second
(B) The car thinks a trailer is not connected (affects suspension/engine/gearbox management)

The adaptor is typically a bunch of high wattage resistors but Range Rover wants £200 for the adaptor, EBAY will be cheaper.

A Witter Towbar being installed today .. and as car has full CANBUS system opted to get the proper wiring harness to go with it, has the necessary adapter you mention.

So if this is the case should be fine on LED then ?

bug**r .. turned up to collect car, no Tow Bar fitted.
Seems WITTER sent wrong bracket ... and now they advise will cost £150 more for alternative, so have to wait another full week. !
