I would expect its because the bulk of those being off-roaded were D1 originals. My D2 had no problems.

I have an R class Merc. Towing capacity is 2250kg. My boat and trailer plus fuel etc is probably about 2000kg. I went to Cornwall earlier this year and the brakes were not adjust correctly. It was somewhat scary trying to bring the whole thing to a stop while going downhill .
