Could, do you think, the MET office now back down if it was ever proven over time, to be wrong? That's my problem. I think probably on balance the earth has warmed slightly, but I struggle with all the political interference and money involved to believe either side of the argument.

Sadly only time will tell I feel...

It's become a political excuse now to raise spurious "green" taxes. I'd like to know how they spend those taxes, apart from themselves driving around in big cars and flying to conferences first class

The environment is just being used, badly. I agree that it would be a good idea to reduce pollution but this whole MMGW thing is getting a bit silly. It's trotted out by the Met Office and the BBC as an excuse for everything that goes wrong.

no one is to be believed, it all has an agenda and a means to an end. The only people worthy of time or respect are those that know and I mean actually KNOW. Its only when you objectively take an environmental course (i.e. the OU) that you realise this. But there is little unbiased opinion, from people with green energy interests to personal interests, i.e. money/power/political or grant money to education bodies and individuals, most bend the realities to their own end benefit. TV gives the DOOM and GLOOM for ratings (benefiting advertisers etc) whilst the likes of the EA promote rising seas for extra cash for wages and HUGE contractor bills (who pay back those in HMGC with 'sweeteners' sorry donations to the party) and we cover it all by tax rises to cover it. You'll never hear anyone say the world is warming up but don't worry I'll investigate it for free.

the truth is the world is warming up but it has before and will continue to do. We are screwing the planet big time but the current warming cycle is possibly the damage done by our ancestors over 100's of years of coal burning etc. The earth has been around for millions of years, we been recording its changes for less than millionth of a second over 100000 years. there is no possible way you can ever quantify or justify any changes or effects in that amount of time.

We can sit and argue for weeks but until we turn off those huge server farms we all use and stop buying cheap plastic from China it will have little affect.

.....Discuss

Plus Id like to know how the met office can say that when I was camping with 2.5deg on the thermometer 2 weeks ago freezing my nuts off in August. :o :D

I saw the headline and thought 'oh good!' but then read on to find that Northern Europe will miss out.....

As suggested above, though, it's all rubbish. They said this year would be great too but I don't know anyone who's had a great summer. We had two great trips up to Loch Lomond in the last two years (30*C and sunny) but not had a whiff of that down on the south coast at all this year. All that warmth is hiding down in the deep oceans somewhere, apparently.....

Strange that isn't it. When I went to school I was taught that heat rises rather than sinks :?

Yeah a bit of a rant BB, but still some good points from all.

But also to add, Ed has quite rightly said in the past, how can they really tell that far in advance what the weather will be like.

Consequently the Met Office sending out this sort message to the media is a kind of Global Warming sort of thing.

They're guessing then?
