What do you think of this boat? Norco 29.

by Ianfs » 13 Sep 2015, 17:37

It's called a Norco Serena 29, but is a one off build. Built by Poole GRP moulding specialists Norco GRP Ltd. They say its built on an Arrowcraft 28 hull, but the only Arrowcraft hull maker I can find make canoes. :?

However its a bit quirky, built between 2006-2008 its now up for sale, so I can only think they either didn't get any buyers or they decided not to pursue boat building.

I don't like the snub sort of nose, but the design must have allowed for headroom. What I do like is that she is on shafts with twin Yanmar 240's, giving 40knts.

What do you think?

Helm seat is a bit basic, but I'm sure that could be changed.

More room than most in the small cabin.

Looks very nice, how many hours has it done? It can't be too many looking at the engine and upholstery. Your very own gin palace.

Interesting boat, I agree about the bow, S24s give me the same feeling. It's all about headroom as you say.

What's that chunk of metal between the props?

Not sure Gaz, making enquiries.

I have no idea, it could be there because of the swim platform. When underway, I'm guessing without it the platform might get swamped by the wash. That's a pure guess.

The more I think about it, the more I think the hump is there for headroom as we've said, but the design takes into account the engines are further forward because of the shafts and are therefore higher in the bilges than if they were in the stern with stern drives.

Whats going through my mind is that an S28 2002 is about £45-50k whereas this is a 2008 at £43k. Cheap enough but a Sealine 28 in 4 yrs might still fetch £40k whereas this boat might get £20k. There is of course the reliability factor, only 7yrs old not used much against 13yrs old and maybe 500-700hrs use.

Decisions decisions, what a tough life. :D :D :D
