Where have all the boaters gone

by argonaut » 13 Sep 2015, 17:27

This year has been almost devoid of boaters in the bay ........ most times we are the only ones out - has boating in general hit a slump.

Yesterday afternoon is typical ..early evening tide - great weather, sunshine no wind .... we launched at 4pm and came back in when it was dark .... really good day out and apart form one rib that only stayed out a short time we again had bay to ourselves.

Look at the view -

Superb photo.

That's a great wake, very little foam in the second wave. Have you got any water bags in the stern or is it just the boat doing that?

Our private ski club has been empty. I've been the only one out most times - having said that, I've boated half as much this summer as previous years. I blame the weather (and my paddle board) :)

I've only been out a handful of times this year. Its got to be the weather. Has saved me a fortune though!

I haven't made it to a Coast or a Loch this year either. Must try harder next year.

Well at face value its been a poor year, we seem to have had lots of strong wind which combined with James working every other weekend and every Bank Holiday has limited the scope for boating.

However looking at the log, we have achieved 20 boating trips so far and around 48hours of engine time. Analysing the engine hours shows this to be the most hours in a year that the boat has done in its life (based on averaging the other hours across the lifetime)

I guess the high hours shows that the weather affected the style of boating as high engine hours probably shows that the amount of river boating compared to sea boating is high.

One more scheduled trip planned for this year. We like to go to Poole after the speed limits are relaxed and try to align with the Classic Motoboats Association meet at Poole to give us something to see. This is on the 10th/11th October this year.

Weather has been awful where I boat not had a weekend when tide is right and winds been below 10mph at launch .......... high winds (or wrong direction - Easterly no good for me) or chucking it down with rain - so poor after last year.

Another pic from same evening - gives a view of boat .. and I'm at the end of 55' rope.
It also shows difference - no trim used when rising SkySki - speed at this time is at 23mph

That is some solid wake you have there, a bit foamy on the edges but what isn't?

Yes, the weather this year is really suited to all weather lifeboats or ships! :?
