I would, however, point out that it isn't meant to be at an angle. The sonar beam is going to go slightly starboard rather than directly down - which may make a difference over a greater depth. The transducer is meant to be totally level and at the same height as the bottom of the hull. Yours looks a little bit lower than the hull which means you will get some turbulence from it which can reduce it's effectiveness at high speeds. That model has a 60' beam, so you have 30' either side of vertical and in the picture it looks more than 30' off...

Just being OCD about it :)

Hi Carl

Now I've looked at it in greater detail on my pc screen and following on from Nicks post about turbulence, am I right in saying that your starboard chine ends out of shot i.e. the end of your transom? What I mean is, when I first viewed it on my iPhone the shadow/difference in colour of the transom looks like you've set the transducer at the very edge of the transom starboard side. Having looked at it again on a bigger screen it looks very close to the stern drive. I may be way off base here, but how far away do the instructions say it should be from the stern drive?

Also I've looked at some pics of mine, which was fitted at the factory and it seems to be lower that the bottom of the boat but further away from the drive.

I have to say my knowledge at this point about these things is not much and my earlier advice was that you had it correctly fitted pointing backwards rather than down, as far as anything else goes Nick is more of an expert than I, but it does seem that mine is below the hull.

If I recall from the fitting instructions for mine is was as follows.

The bracket should be horizontal and the sender base should be level with the line of the hull, i.e not protruding below the level of the hull.

The sender should be locked off so that it is also horizontal front to back.

Mine is a similar distance from the stern drive as yours and works well at all speeds so must be about right.

If it actually stops raining here .. i'll move the boat forward and get a rear end shot .....
The instructions didn't say anything about how far from the stern drive it should be mounted .. they just concentrated on the fitting of the display unit..

My mounting instruction said sender level with bottom of the hull. As for it's location, the instructions simply specify "away from obstructions such as propellers or chines and in as clear water as possible" or some such similar wording. Where clear water means water free of turbulence. So mine is mounted exactly half way between the chines and the outboard, flush with the bottom of the hull.
