Run out on Monday

by Ianfs » 18 Aug 2015, 22:04

We've been on annual leave these last few weeks doing my birthday down to Padstow and our daughters wedding last week in Marlow. There was a blank day on Monday and the weather window was good, cloudy/sunshine, wind up to 10mph mostly Northerly.
So I yanked the boat out with SWMBO and toddled off down to Newhaven. You can't always tell what it will be like down there because of the cliffs but Monday was good, so we decided to do a run down to Brighton, drop anchor and have lunch. Here's a Video I put together, followed by some pics. Apologies if the video is a bit shakey, the return was a little bumpy because the wind had altered course and we were heading into tide.
Also my speedo is way out, I noticed it was reading about 23-25mph when GPS was giving 29/32mph. I was allowed a short burst at Newhaven when we touched 40mph at 4,000 revs, but then the screeching noise from the rev limiter kicked in (ha ha that was SWMBO).
She's running much nicer now with the power piston in place. I put in new plugs Monday morning so will have to check them at some stage, but think she is running rich.

I hope you like them.....

There was a bit of sun, so I did the rear conversion. The rear seats relocate and you lie across the engine cover...

Nice one and nice to see some flat water this year. Love the rev limiter. I'm sure there is a fix you can get for the screeching sound. Pouring alcohol down the inlet until it goes quiet as I recall

As usual the forecast this weekend is deteriorating.

Saturday (the day I can't get out) is not too bad, Sunday (the day I'm heading for the air show) starts OK but then pucks up a nasty Southerly in the afternoon.

Was that a beach launch Ian or just Laura parking the Land River on the shingle?

Sat/Sun - plans in turmoil over now after BBC predict a 21 mph S/W on Sunday - not happy and waiting a last minute wether miracle.

+1 Betty, just not worth the journey down there for me now.
Just shows, you've got to just go and make the most of it when the weather presents as Ian has done, shame that normally it's easier said than done! :(

The slip is £30 and is about 3/4 of the tide generally and they launch you from their tractor, no diy, they do have a very big free car/trailer park next to the ramp, its gravel covered but no issues. The slip closes at 17:00 though and you have to be aware of the ferry times as they close the port for about 30 mins until the ferry is securely moored. If you want to do the trip, I'd be happy to crew for you or you for me, or we can go together with our boats solo skippered. The slip has a pontoon so with two of us it would be dead easy. I have a few mates wanting to come out still so a lot depends on timing and sea state. The biggest issue with Newhaven is the cliffs, the wind can be deceiving from the marina, you tend not to know what its going to be like until you stick your nose out, except of course unless its dead calm.
