by ian h » 22 Aug 2019, 21:00

Well for once the last Bank Holiday of the year is looking very good, warm and sunny,

Who is planning to go boating?

We are off to Cowes on Sunday to watch the Cowes Torquay Cowes Power boat race,

I had planned to get out for an overnight in cowes this afternoon ( Friday) but plans have changed.
Will hopefully get out Sunday afternoon now and stay in cowes, I would have loved to of seen the powerboats start but just can’t make it now.
Maybe get to see a few returning later in the day.
Fingers crossed the forecast remains as predicted.
Don’t want any of that weather on the return that you experienced last weekend!! :o

If you're following to the Needles Ian. I'll be on the cliff top West of Milford.
My 300mm lens is not working but I may be able to Photoshop some photos. :D

How was the start ?
I didn’t get out in the end, luckily, I called for a berth before leaving but they said no chance.
Will plan to head out tomorrow and try tomorrow night instead.

No BH boating for me. I've had problems with the Hardy for a number of weeks now. Running hot and down on power. Too down to make it worthwhile going out.
Tompa has narrowed it down and is pretty certain it's the turbo.
Replacement was supposed to be delivered on Friday. But it didn't turn up. Pretty miffed.

Was a good day out, The start was a wonderful sound of those boats racing down the Solent,

Unfortunately some of them did not make it too far due to various problems.

We went down to the Needles and went round the South side . Was remarkably calm and lots of boats off the Needles.

We met up with Martin Payne in his Hunton 37 and the plan was to have lunch anchored up. But luckily we were listening to the Race channel on VHF when they mentioned the mist / fog rolling in over the Needles, Within minutes it was covering Alum bay, Luckily we managed to get out just in time,

Just had to have a WOT Blast all the way back to Cowes :D dare not work out how much fuel used. But I do know the engines use 57 litres per hour at WOT EACH

Managed to also get a short stay berth,

Clocked just short of 60 miles . Made me wonder why I am selling the boat ......................

Sounds very nice!
Chris, I know your pain,
We got half way to cowes before an overheat caused us to limp back. Investigations will have to start when I have time ( of which I do not have a lot of for a while) so that may be the end of my season.
No idea at the moment, but a very disappointing end to what was planned to be a lovely couple of days out on it.

Fabulous weekend, managed two days of boating between myself and James.

Saturday was the Premier Swanwick Drystack Social outing so we stormed out the Hamble in the flotilla and raced over to Newtown Creek and then on to Yarmouth.

Yarmouth was rammed and they seemed to have forgotten the flotilla was coming. Therefore we dispersed and myself and James went over to Totland bay to relax for the afternoon.

The evening saw us return to Swanwick for the Bursleden Regatta fireworks.

James went out for the Powerboat racing on Sunday.
