So when do I fill my tank?

by mlines » 01 Dec 2014, 16:03

Drove past a petrol station with petrol at £1.19 per litre. I see the last time it was down this low was 2010.

The boat is half empty, so do I wait for it to fall further. Whats the forecast?

I was wondering the same thing, will it still be this low when I ideally want to fill up next year - who knows. With 250 odd litres that's quite a saving to be had over recent prices!!
But, will the fuel not go off if sitting there unused for at least 3 months or so?
I know fuel doesn't last as long as it used to..

I'm no expert and am certainly not a fuel price geek, but I think as you guys do especially as the Land Rover tank holds over 80 litres and the boat 125 litres, so with your tanks it's double that of mine!!

Consequently hearing on the radio that once again this week that the price of oil is coming down I would say that gamble should be wait until the Spring! :geek:

Plus as Martin did, we have just bought petrol at 118.9ppl in Buckinghamshire but it's still 123.9ppl here in West Sussex.

I've been ranting to Autogas on Twitter that the price of LPG hasn't dropped. It's still at 65.9p !!

There is another consideration to take into account about the cost of fuel, although it may or may not happen in our lifetime. :?

I think and I may be barking up the wrong tree, that there will become a point where oil and petroleum derivatives will either become very very expensive or will be as cheap as chips, more likely however I think they will become very expensive.

I leave fuel in my tank from previous season and it's never given me any problems.

Thei issue is not how long to leave it because of degredation but instead the price!

Leave it empty, where 2 years ago I topped up on the last trip out not Mercrusier advise an empty tank as the organic additives in modern petrol will break down over winter and will form deposits in the carb etc.

no expert- but thats what was passed on by the merc mechanic. over winter is hardly a long time though. You could always budget with a can a month to spread the cost and gamble on a rise in prices
