Planning the Dream

by del936 » 24 Feb 2018, 12:33

I'm not sure if anyone who has kindly offered advice will read this but things have moved on. We have had an offer, subject to finance, accepted on a 2003 Princess 45. Cosmetically she is in excellent condition but will be getting a survey as well as a full sea trial with Volvo engineer. We will then move it by sea around to the Solent and then Med next year.

Wow, I bet you are all excited, what a journey eh? Is it the one in Ipswich?

I was lucky enough back in the late 80's to have been offered a ride on a friends P45 from Swanwick to Cowes which had the upgrade option of more powerful Caterpillar engines. His mate had a P435 fitted with Volvo engines so when we raced back it was a little unfair, but what a boat. Quite a few changes to the later versions though.

Sprocker from this parish has just bought a P40 and loves it, this one........

Have you managed to find an engineer yet?

Hi Ian,

Thank you for the info and positive comments.

Re engineer, I have enquired but no I don't have one booked as it is still a while before it will complete. Assuming all of the finance comes together we will be getting it Surveyed and sea trialled with an engineer. Thing is, she's in Ipswich and so was looking to go local otherwise we will need to spend out on travelling time.... unless you know someone. Once purchase completes, I will be moving it around to the Solent.

Cheers,

Derek

The only engineer I would use would be Paul Street. He lives in the Midlands area, but most of his work is around Southampton believe it or not. I'll pm you his number so you can ask him if he would consider Ipswich.

Thank Ian,

If that's the same guy that lives in Nottingham called Volvo Paul on the YBW forum then I have spoken to him. He says that Ipswich is too much out of his. If not then please pass me his number.

What do you have and where are you based?

Cheers,

Derek

Hi Derek

Yes its Volvo Paul, sorry he couldn't get to you though. I think most of his work is around The Solent so he fits in survey's when hes down this way. Maybe he could recommend someone up that way for you?

We moved to Barton on Sea just over 18 months ago, we have the West Solent at the bottom of our road and are almost opposite The Needles. At the moment We only have a small SeaRay bowrider, which is kept at Bucklers Hard, but have been looking for an upgrade for a while now and have boring the pants off a few of our members, however we are not in your league. :D

We did look at live aboard ideas a few years back and it may still happen. One boat we really liked was a Beneteau Grand Tourismo 40 but if we were to go that route it would mean selling up then using the left over cash to live on.

Derek

I live 7 miles from Ipswich. I don't have a boat anywhere near as large as this one (unless of course you line my small ones up end to end ;) ). If you would like any local help (I am Semi retired). I would be pleased to assist if I can

You can send me a pm or just message on here

Regards

Dennis
