Boat fire in Torquay harbour

by sprocker » 29 May 2017, 19:23

Scary stuff! Refueling on the visitors pontoon from jerry can, whilst smoking a fag apparently. :(

The following is true:

I was in Torquay marina yesterday and walked past the small speed boat that was damaged in the fire it was moored to the visitor pontoon. Next to this boat was a medium sized boat being fuelled from cans and another person had stopped to ask the guy doing the fuelling what had happened to the boat. The thing was the guy asking had a cigarette alight and was sort of holding it over the fuel cans as he spoke to the refuelling guy. I stopped and told him what he was doing and he realised and walked away with his fag.

Local newspaper possibly got it wrong about the 'smoking a fag' then. However, harbor regs state no petrol refueling on the moorings or visitor pontoons, they are supposed to use the refueling berth.

Still very lucky nobody was hurt, and I do feel for the owners of both boats that were damaged.

not our video buts its easier to post this one, we can be seen exiting the pontoon at 3.54 into the vid as we were in direct line with the wind/smoke trail - luckily when the lines burnt she went forward and stuck on the little boat but better safe than sorry . - exciting scary stuff. Plus there is less swearing in this video than ours
