Got Scared

by Ianfs » 07 Oct 2015, 07:13

Without looking at it the Bayliner seems ok, but its been advertised in a lot of places. I think there maybe a deal to be had on it somewhere. One thing that's bothering me about it though and that's the skeg. It doesn't look right, although it could be the angle of the picture, but it looks like its been ground down somewhat, the skeg on an Alpha One Gen 11 should be larger. Also the paint around the lower end where the prop meets the casing looks like its been worn away. Possible due to a rope or something being caught around it at some stage, if so, that's not a problem, but if the thrust bearing inside is worn it means the prop is rubbing on it.

Edit, actually, I think that its an anode showing rather than the prop scraping the housing.

Apart from that she looks good.

Now then, I'm going to throw another boat in the mix, just to blow your mind a little more......its exciting though eh? :D

You originally wanted a 240 Sundancer for the Broads but wanted something to use on the sea. However, you were put off by the mooring fees and possible repair/maintenance of a big engine. The one you showed us was £18k and had a trailer, 5.0 l engine but possible repair bills may have been an issue.

Well just to throw this one in to the mix, here is one on a trailer, 2004, with a new warranted engine. You would need a bigger car to tow it with but as Martin has said you could get a cheap Land Rover or something similar, but it would realise your dream without major repair bills to worry about. It sounds like they have been up front about it too, frost damage! The engine has a 2 yr warranty and has done next to no hours. The boat looks immaculate too. It's over your original budget but with clever negotiating you may get it for a lot less. OK its in Ireland but its not too far away.

Just a thought......

I would check that it has been properly CE marked as it looks like an import from the states looking at the numbers and letters on the bow. If it hasn't got a CE plate then stay well away!

Good point James. :)

He has also got this one, I don't know much about these boats but it has an outboard. But check the CE plates :D

Skeg does look short but with a discount can be easily repaired, a new Skeg fitted is aprox £100 or £30 ish if you can weld it yourself - ball ache is just taking the drive off for welding. - mine has a large chunk out of it too but wasn't worth cutting as the mechanics said it wasn't necessary.

Auto's- one option I will be considering if I sell the pathfinder soon will be a Galaxy- boring car I know but it doubles as a great camper car (if your into that stuff as they are in Aus/NZ) The mk2 VW semi auto TDi box never missed a beat towing betty all over the country for 6 years, with heavy load and kids - if you stay away from ex cabs (as lots are) you can get a decent one for £1200 on a 53 - 55 plate. - just a thought.

CE plate, From memory I can't remember if Betty has a plate but definitely is CE approved but isn't that a surveyors stamp to say you've paid VAT and it comes with minor refinements for UK/EU waters? internal fire extinguisher/MO detector etc. would void insurance but not sure on deal breaker if the price was right but as we'e disguised the deal is the price at the time that will be paid - I know a young man who listed a 192 for £20k - refused £18k& £15 but sold it £12k 18 months later

Bayliner 602 dry weight = 1200kgs

Trailer weight = 350kgs single axle job not much to it.

All up dry = 1550kgs.

Toyota Previa auto tow capacity, source Parkers = 1600kgs
Vauxhall 2.5 V6 Vectra tow capacity = 1500kgs

And another!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fletcher-19-1 ... 1850647007?

Trailer looks tired and engine is 2 stroke.

If you can get this for under £6.5k then the difference you can spend on fuel and sorting the trailer!!

Just seen this on Gumtree..

https://www.gumtree.com/p/boats-kayaks- ... 1136918504

Nice engine, trailer looks quite old though.

Towing it 462 miles is less appealing!!

Anyone want to by a 19 GTO with 75 HP merc 4 stroke perhaps??
