Winterising that Inboard

Oh, and my understanding, but I may very well be wrong, but turning it over dry, even for fogging, may chew the impeller up!!

I know I know :) But I have my other boating buddy telling me in my other ear that he has never fogged an engine in over 30 years of boating and he is the most obsessive and by the book person I know.
I agree about not starting her dry though

Also I just looked at my weather station graphs and it got down to -1.2 in the night here so I am glad I did the antifreeze. With the wind (up to 40 mph) and the rain I just could not do the fogging as well and that would have meant leaving the engine open to the rain while I did it. I was lucky to be able to do what I did.

When I get a better day I can repeat the procedure just with some antifreeze in a bucket and do the fogging thing

Stu

Once you have got the engine full of Antifreeze do you drain down at all or do you leave it that way. The main reason I don't want to drain down is I don't want a mix of antifreeze in the bilge and bilge pump. I havnt got a drain plug in this boat ?

Another question :)

Has anyone used one of these along with the a heat tube:

Ebay had it for £18 so bought one. Also it is the latest model with battery backup for the timer if you read the blurb

Leave the antifreeze in Dennis, it contains some anti corrosive additives. It'll all come out when you re commission her next season.

If you do want to fog the engine at a later stage, here's another idea. Not so good though if you don't have a drain plug or a wet vac.

Have some mixture made up in a 5 l plastic bottle, the sort it comes in. Put muffs on and run the engine, most of the antifreeze will be lost. Fog the engine as per instructions or rev to 1500 squirt in half slowly then go to idle and do a long squirt, the engine should die but if not switch off.
Then drain the manifold then the engine. Undo all the coolant hoses at the top end i.e at the thermostat end and poor coolant down each one. The one which goes to the intake will drain out of the leg, the ones to the block and manifold will fill up nicely. Block off all the areas in which air can enter, flame arrest or, exhaust ports, impeller intake etc and you're done.
As I said though not so good if you don't have a drain or wet vac to get rid of the water in the bilge.

No I don't, I leave it in, as Ian says, it will assist with stopping internal corrosion. And, like you, I have no drain plug.
Another idea for the fog oil, what about giving it a spray into the carb, Nd remove plugs and spray direct into each cylinder, not as good as when running but better than nothing?

I think this is what I will do when we get a nice day for it
